High Mount Double DIN Head Unit Kit for Subaru Forester SF (1997-2002)

This High Mount Double DIN Head Unit Kit by D3D is a must have for anyone with a first generation Subaru Forester - it hugely improves the usability and appearance of your head unit, and is developed and made right here in Australia. The SG Forester dashboard design doesn't lend itself very well to a modern touchscreen, and makes it awkward to use in its low position. This kit is 3D printed from ABS plastic for the internal components, and fibreglass-reinforced ABS for the main trim panel for added strength and a higher-quality surface finish. Polycarbonate is used for the top layer of the trim panel for increased UV resistance and temperature resistance up to 115°C, which ensures it will withstand the worst of our Australian summer days. This kit allows you to keep the centre air conditioning vents by routing them either side of the head unit if desired. The non-vented version includes a cover plate for the air conditioning duct, which increases airflow to the outer left and right air vents in your dashboard for an overall similar effect.

You will want to use a plug and play wiring harness for your chosen system as this will extend the wiring enough to reach the back of the unit in this new location. Cutting the factory plug off and splicing in the harness that comes with your head unit will provide enough length as well, but takes more fiddling around. Installing this kit does require making one cut to the existing air duct for the centre air vents, but this can be done easily with a utility knife and instructions are provided - the plastic used for the duct is soft enough to cut without the use of a Dremel or other power tools.

These kits are made in black by default, but custom colours are available - just select the Custom Colour version of this item and leave a note in the text field above the purchase buttons. Please note that the top Polycarbonate layer will be black regardless of your colour choice - this is done to prevent the annoying reflections that light colours can create on the windscreen. Installing this kit is considered a basic-to-moderate skill level DIY job.
