High Mount Double DIN Head Unit Kit for Subaru Forester SF (1997-2002, 1st Gen)

This High Mount Double DIN Head Unit Kit by D3D is a must have for anyone with a first generation Subaru Forester - it hugely improves the usability and appearance of your head unit, and is developed and made right here in Australia. The SF Forester dashboard design doesn't lend itself very well to a modern touchscreen, and makes it awkward to use in its low position. This kit raises the screen to the same height as the gauge cluster and gives way to a big improvement in ergonomics. This kit allows you to keep the centre air conditioning vents by routing them either side of the head unit if desired. The non-vented version includes a cover plate for the air conditioning duct, which increases airflow to the outer left and right air vents in your dashboard for an overall similar effect.

You will want to use a plug and play wiring harness for your chosen head unit (not included) as this will extend the wiring enough to reach the back of the unit in this new location. Cutting the factory plug off and splicing in the harness that comes with your head unit will provide enough length as well, but takes more fiddling around. Installing this kit does require making one cut to the existing air duct for the centre air vents, but this can be done easily with a utility knife and instructions are provided - the plastic used for the duct is soft enough to cut without the use of a Dremel or other power tools. Installing this kit is considered a basic skill level DIY job.
